The vine-leaf The bunch The bud

It is locally called “Anascetta” or “Nas-cetta”, but it is surely different from the Sardinian vine “Nasco”. Nascetta vine has been recently signed up for the Grapevine Variety National Catalogue, and recommended for the cultivation in the province of Cuneo, due to the studies which were carried out by the CVT, in collaboration with other Piedmontese research institutions.

Geographic distribution

It used to be spread in Albese, until Mondově. It is nowadays present in such a narrow cultural area, practically limited to the municipality of Novello, in the province of Cuneo.

Morphological characters

Bud: greenish white, with rosy edges, very much lanuginose, apex; greenish white, slightly bronzed, inferiorly very much lanuginose, apex leaves (1-3); light green, with bronze shades, basal leaves (4-5); the fourth is inferiorly lanuginose, from the fifth onward, its nervations are bristly.
Herbal shoot: erect carriage, of a green colour, which is red hued on its dorsal side; its tendrils are very much developed.
Adult leaf: medium-small, pentagonal or orbicular, five- or more rarely seven-lobed; its border is thin, medially bubbly, of a dark green colour with a green or rosy nervation base and a plan profile; its teeth are protruding, with rectilinear margins, or concave/convex; its central womb is open, U-shaped, sometimes with a tooth; its superior lateral wombs are lyre-shaped, with superimposed edges, often with a tooth; its inferior page has a lanuginose border and bristly nervations.
Ripened grape: medium-large, cylindrical with one or more rarely two wings, compact; its peduncle is of medium-length (or medium-large) (2.2-2.4 g), between spherical to short ellipsoidal (equatorial diameter/longitudinal diameter=1.09); its peel is of medium-thickness, medially pruinose, of a yellow or golden yellow, with an amber shade and rust-coloured stains, if it is exposed to the sun; its navel is evident; its pulp is juicy, with a neutral but pleasant taste; its seeds are large.

Phenology

Germination: precocious.
Flowering: medium.
Turning to dark colour: medium (middle of August).

Grape maturation: medium-precocious (second decade of September), nearly a week after Chardonnay, and basically at the same time of Dolcetto.

Cultural attitudes and utilization

Nascetta vine, which used to be known as grapes of a delicious taste and excellent oenological attitudes, also in the recent experiences it has confirmed its interesting potentialities; its wine, well-structured and with a correct acidity, has floral, fruity (apple, sometimes citrus or tropical fruits), and honey notes; moreover, it is suitable for ageing in wood containers: small barrels (barrique) exalts its harmonic and structure properties, giving it a bouquet in which ripe fruit and vanilla are the predominant flavour.
Vigour: medium or medium-high; its balance is good.
Fertility: medium, with slightly fertile basal gems.
Productivity: medium-high, constant; it is present in femminelle.
Shoot carriage: semi-erect; its shoots are thin, with medium-length inter-nodes.
