Cultural attitudes and utilization

Alessandria Lambrusca vine is medially vigorous and of a good fertility, also at its basal gem level; it is then a productive vine, whose rusticity is very well-evaluated, since it is suitable for several cultural situations; it also has the advantage of avoiding spring cold returns due to its rather late germination, and for this reason it is grafted in the lowest parts of the hill, or in the highest parts of alpine valleys. It also presents a scarce susceptibility to cryptogrammic diseases, peronospora and especially grey mould. These grapes are very much rich of extract and colour and for this reason they are utilized together with grapes which lack from this point of view.
Vigour: medium, with a good development of its shoots.
Fertility:
medium-high, and it is also present at basal gem level; its shoots are also fertile.
Productivity:
high (more than 1.5 kg of grapes/m2), with a tendency to alternate.
Shoot carriage:
semi-erect.
