Cultural attitudes and utilization

Vigour: medium-high; its shoots have long inter-nodes and have an erect carriage.
Fertility and production:
its productivity is medium, sometimes it is disadvantaged by leaking phenomena, and it is not very constant; its fertility is medium-high, but not at basal gem level; its femminelle are fertile.
Plant-culture and pruning:
it is generally utilized the counter-espalier method, it needs a long and rich pruning. In the Guyot case, its capo fruits 12-14 gems, but in Chierese, traditionally, there is a small arch, also bilateral. It is also suitable for high and expanded types of plant-cultures, such as Pinerolese and Canavese pergolas.
Multiplication behaviour:
good with the most common grafts.
Susceptibility to adversities and phytopathy:
Freisa vine is slight susceptible to cryptogrammic and specifically to peronospora, grape mould and rot; it is less tolerant to oidium; it is not damaged by late hoarfrosts, but it may be subjected to leaking and rachis drying.
Oenological attitudes:
these grapes, although slightly tannic, give wine a pleasant fruity smell (raspberry and wild fruits), which is a characteristic that is exalted with vivacious wines (slightly sparkling wines); its good dotation of colour and structure is suitable for obtaining wines ready to be drunk or of moderate ageing.
